DIKEN (NEEMUCH): Inaugurating Asia's largest solar power
plant on Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took
potshots at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi saying there can't be any
comparison between BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and the
Amethi MP.
"Kahan Narendra Modi aur kahan Rahul Gandhi. Kahan
moochh ka bal aur kahan poochh ka bal (no comparison between Modi and Rahul;
one's a moustache, the other a tail)," said Chouhan, adding, "Jisme
kendra mein mantri ban-ney ka saahas nahi, woh PM kya banega? (one who lacks
the courage to take up a ministry can't aim to become PM)."
Reiterating Modi will be the next PM, Chouhan promised 100%
success for the BJP in the elections from all eight seats in the Malwa-Nsimar
region, unlike 2009, when the party won only six of the eights seats.
On the other hand, Modi stuck to development agenda,
striking out at the Congress-led UPA for mismanaging power sector and pushing
the country into the "dark ages". Saffron means solar power (sun),
said Modi, stating that country needs a saffron revolution to meet its power
demands.
"The country's eastern part has great hydroelectric
potential, while western coastline is treasure trove of wind energy," said
Modi. "The Plains of Gujarat and Rajasthan are blessed with solar power.
If all these natural resources are tapped optimally, the country will become a
major producer of electricity. Sadly, those in Delhi merely think of electoral
gains," the BJP leader said.
India has slipped on the energy ladder owing to messy
policies of successive Congress regimes at the Centre, Modi said. While major
part of India lives in darkness, it is failing to generate at least 20,000mw
electricity due to environmental concerns of the government, scarcity of coal,
and policy paralysis.
"The rupee has slid to a historic low against the
dollar; current account deficit remains alarming and exports are dipping while
imports continue to rise. The country has enormous coal reserves, but the
Centre lacks the will to use it optimally," Modi said.
