एक ओर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने लातूर की एक 20 वर्षीय महिला को डिजिटल ट्रांजैक्शन के लिए 1 करोड़ के इनाम से सम्मानित किया, वहीं दूसरी ओर जिले की एक युवती ने कुएं में कूदकर इसलिए अपनी जान दे दी, क्योंकि उसके पिता उसकी शादी के लिए पैसे नहीं जुटा पा रहे थे। 21 वर्षीय शीतल वैंकट वायल ने 3 वर्ष पहले स्कूल की पढ़ाई पूरी की थी।

शीतल की मौत ने महाराष्ट्र में किसानों के हालात पर अलग ढंग से प्रकाश डाला है। शुक्रवार सुबह शीतल ने अपने ही खेत के कुएं में कूदकर जान दे दी। इस आत्महत्या की वजह परिवार को बाद में पता चली। परिजनों को एक नोट मिला, जिसमें लिखा हुआ था कि उसके माता-पिता बेहद गरीब हैं और उसकी शादी के लिए पैसे नहीं जुटा पा रहे। नोट में आगे भावनात्मक रूप से लिखा था, 'मैं अपने पिता के आर्थिक बोझ को कम करने और अपने मराठा-कुनबी समुदाय में दहेज की प्रथा को खत्म करने के लिए अपना जीवन खत्म कर रही हूं।' इन शब्दों से राज्य के राजनैतिक हलकों में हलचल मच गई है।

शीतल ने आगे लिखा था, 'पिछले पांच वर्षों से फसल खराब होने की वजह से परिवार आर्थिक संकट से गुजर रहा है, हालात नाजुक बने हुए हैं। हालांकि, मेरी बहनों की शादी बिना किसी दिखावे के शालीन तरीके से संपन्न हो गई।' शीतल के मुताबिक, 'मेरी शादी के लिए मेरे पिता लगातार कोशिशें कर रहे हैं... लेकिन बैंकों-साहूकारों से लोन न मिल पाने के कारण मेरी शादी दो सालों से टल रही है। इसलिए अपने पिता का बोझ कम करने और मराठा समुदाय में दहेज की प्रथा को खत्म करने के लिए मैं अपना जीवन खत्म कर रही हूं। मुझे और मेरे परिवार को इसके लिए किसी भी प्रकार से दोष नहीं दिया जाना चाहिए।'

मुजज्फरपुर: बिहार में सीतामढ़ी जिले के रुनीसैदपुर थाना क्षेत्र में कल देर रात भीषण सड़क दुर्घटना में एक कट्टर नक्सली और सात पुलिसकर्मियों की मौत हो गई तथा एक नक्सली और सात पुलिस के जवान गंभीर रुप से घायल हो गए। पुलिस सूत्रों ने आज यहां बताया कि भागलपुर केंद्रीय कारा से कट्टर नक्सली सोहाग पासवान और हेमंत राम को कैदी वाहन से पेशी के लिए सीतामढ़ी लाया जा रहा था तभी रात्रि करीब दो बजे सीतामढ़ी-मुजज्फरपुर मार्ग पर गयघट पुल के निकट सड़क किनारे खड़े गिट्टी लदे ट्रक में कैदी वाहन ने टक्कर मार दी। इस दुर्घटना में नक्सली हेमंत के अलावा सात पुलिसकर्मियों की मौत हो गयी तथा नक्सली सोहाग और सात पुलिसकर्मी गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए। 

मृतकों में चालक हवलदार मुन्ना सिंह, स्पेशल ऑग्जिलरी पुलिस(सैप) का जवान चूमन सिंह, जमादार मदन मोहन, सिपाही संजय कुमार राय, उमेश मिश्र, कृष्णा सिंह और कुलेश्वर चौधरी शामिल हैं । दुर्घटना में घायल नक्सली हेमंत और सात पुलिसकर्मियों को तत्काल इलाज के लिए मुजफरपुर के श्रीकृष्ण मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल (एसकेएमसीएच) लाया गया जहां इलाज को लेकर चिकित्सकों के साथ पुलिसकर्मियों का विवाद हुआ। 

सूत्रों ने बताया कि इसी के बाद विरोध में एसकेएमसीएच के जूनियर चिकित्सक हड़ताल पर चले गए। बाद में घायल पुलिसकर्मियों को निकट के एक निजी अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है जबकि घायल नक्सली सोहाग का इलाज एसकेएमसीएच में चल रहा है। घायल पुलिसकर्मियों में पवन राय, राजदेव राम, प्रमोद सिंह, सुरेन्द्र पासवान, बिपिन कुमार, अवधेश सिंह, शिवशंकर राम शामिल हैं।

HYDERABAD: Four engineering students and a hookah parlour owner were arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old diploma student in Ghatkesar recently. As she was on a high after smoking hookah and consuming alcohol, one of the students violated her.

The Rachakonda police said the victim and three culprits, Harish, Sameer and Hemanth, were from the same college in Ghatkesar. Ajay, another accused, was from a different engineering college, while Abbas operates the hookah parlour.

On November 2, the victim and the four students went to Abbas' hookah parlour in Ghatkesar.

"At the parlour, the girl was first forced to smoke hookah and later consume alcohol. From there, she was taken to a room where Harish raped her as others kept watch outside,'' assistant commissioner of police (Malkajgiri) G Sandeep told TOI. The girl was let off in the morning, police added.

According to police, Abbas switched off the CCTV cameras and also erased a portion of the footage of the recordings at the parlour.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Brijpal Teotia was attacked by unknown assailants who fired several rounds seriously injuring the leader and co-passengers. The 49-year old leader from Muradnagar was rushed to Fortis Hospital in Noida. 

The unknown attackers surrounded the leader’s car and kept firing indiscriminately. 

Minister of State (MoS) and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma has left from his residence to meet the injured leader. 

Tavatia’s gunman, driver and four others also sustained major injuries. 

According to sources, the gunmen used AK-47 type of weapon to shoot the senior leader and his companions. 

One of the weapons has been seized by the police. SSP Ghaziabad has cordoned off Muradnagar and nearby areas. The location of the attackers has been traced near SRM University, while they are still on the run. 

A few days back, the minister had attended the internal party meet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Brijpal Teotia had also fought assembly elections from Muradnagar in 2012.

A 26-year-old dalit man on Thursday died in police custody under suspicious circumstances here following which twelve police personnel have been suspended.

Kamal Valmiki, a resident of Shiv Katra village, was found dead at Ahirwan police station on Thursday afternoon after he was picked up along with another man, Raju Mistri, in a case of robbery.

The family members of the deceased filed an FIR against the station in charge and other police personnel for beating Kamal to death. However, police claimed he had committed suicide and sent the body for postmortem.

"We were beaten as if we were footballs," Nirmal Valmiki, Kamal's younger brother who was also interrogated by the police told NDTV. "They said to me - either confess or we will kill your brother," he added.

Nirmal was let off by the Police soon after Kamal's alleged suicide on Thursday morning. "I only want my other sons to be safe.

"Twelve police personnel, including the station in charge Yogendra Singh, have been suspended and strict action will be taken against them if found guilty," Shalabh Mathur, SSP Mathura, said.

We are poor. How can we take on the might of the police?," Kishan Valmiki, Kamal's grieving father said.

The members of Valmiki community blocked the Kanpur-Lucknow highway and threw stones at the police station following which senior police officials reached there to control the situation. Meanwhile, Raju Mistri has been reported missing.

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped before she was murdered and set on fire inside her home in east Delhi last week. Two suspects believed to have harassed and stalked the teenager for months have been caught.

The girl's burnt body was found by her mother on Thursday. The police initially believed that it was a suicide.

An autopsy, however, confirmed that she had been strangled.

A friend of the girl has told the police that she had been followed by two young men in the neighbourhood for long and has also claimed that she was sexually assaulted by them. The suspects were picked up on the basis of her statement.

The girl was alone when the killers broke into her home. It is suspected that the attackers burnt the body to hide sexual assault.

The girl had allegedly complained to the police about the men.

Another teen's brutal rape caused massive outrage last month after it emerged that she was repeatedly assaulted and then forced to drink acid by the man who had allegedly raped her earlier. The 14-year-old was kidnapped from her home allegedly by the accused just before a court hearing.

She died on July 26 after a month in hospital, prompting headlines that screamed - "how many Nirbhayas?" - a reference to the young student who was fatally gang-raped on a moving bus in 2012.
