New Delhi, Vivek Sharma : Korean Cultural Centre India organized online ‘3rd Korea Ambassador Cup All India Taekwondo Championship’ which was held recently (September 27th and 28th). A total of 439 people from all over India participated in this championship, which started with a greeting from Ambassador Chang Jae-bok. Thirteen people from each online poomsae competition divisions and two teams from group categories were selected as winners, any they qualified to compete in the World Finals of Korea Ambassador`s Cup as Indian representatives.
Ambassador Jang Jae-bok said, the popularity of Taekwondo is growing in India, and I am especially happy to be able to communicate with young generation of India through Taekwondo. I will commit myself to expand exchanges between Korea and India in the field of culture and especially sports more.
Individual demonstrations and competitions were held in male and female categories based on elementary (1st to 6th class), middle school (7th to 9th), high school(10th to 12th), and general public, under 35, under 50, and over 50. A distinctive feature was the division of family unit team composition based on group competition. Under the purpose of restoring and uniting family-oriented human relationships in the context of the Covid pandemic, the participating teams competed in the brothers-sisters, couple, parent-children, grandparents-grandchildren categories.
Gaurav Singh, who took the first place in the senior category under the age of 35 in this competition, had won a gold medal at the 2019 Southwest Asian Games. He said that due to the covid pandemic situation, many people have had a hard time for the past two years and the Indian Ministry of Sports has also suspended all competition events. In this situation, this Korea Ambassador Cup Taekwondo championship was like sweet rain in drought for Indian Taekwondo players. And he said that he would prepare hard for the World Finals.Sanjay Saraswat, head of Lucknow center, Sport Authority of India(SAI) thanked the Korean government for their hard work for SAI and Taekwondo promotion in India, and said that they would strive to cooperate in sports exchanges with Koreans more in the future. Namdev, the president of the Indian Taekwondo Association said he expressed his gratitude to Korean Cultural Centre India and Korean Embassy for hosting this Taekwondo championship on behalf of the Indian Taekwondo people.
