The BJP councillor, Raghavendra Shokeen, also brought with
him the mandal president from his ward, Arun Kumar Singh Chauhan. Shokeen won
as an independent candidate in the 2007 municipal elections from Kamruddin
Nagar in Nangloi Jat. He joined BJP during his first tenure and re-contested
the 2012 municipal elections on a BJP ticket.
Rakesh Kumar, who resigned from JD (U) on Friday before
joining AAP, is a councillor from Matia Mahal. "I have seen how Congress
and BJP function and was completely disillusioned with all parties. AAP has the
best take on issues of water, electricity, VAT and FDI. I have been associated
with the Jan Lokpal movement and was keen to join the party formally," he
said. Kumar's party colleague Shoaib Iqbal, the only JD(U) MLA in Delhi
assembly, withdrew support from the AAP government after refusing to support
them on the Lokpal issue in assembly. Unlike Iqbal, Kumar said that he was
officially a part of AAP now and his support to the party was unquestionable.
The third councillor, Imran Hussain, won from the Ballimaran
constituency on a BSP ticket. Party sources said that he managed to get 16,000
votes and was a strong grassroots worker. "It is also important to see
that with the share of votes to smaller parties getting smaller with each
election and their members moving to AAP, they no longer form a third front
within the city. This position is now being occupied by the Congress the city
is now being occupied by the Congress," said party sources.
The four reportedly met party chief Arvind Kejriwal on
Thursday and formally resigned from their parties on Friday. While nobody has
been given a formal role within the party, sources said that they would be
expected to campaign within their areas for the Lok Sabha elections.
